Ecuador Service Learning 2020

Hillside Jr/Sr High School is proud to announce another amazing travel opportunity, a spring break-based service learning trip to Ecuador in 2020!

This tour is operated by EF Educational Tours in partnership with ME to WE and their award-winning charity WE Charity, to give the students local access to communities in Ecuador. They will gain insight into the challenges locals face throughout Ecuador as they work side-by-side building sustainable solutions—empowering communities for generations to come.

From the rugged mountains to the lush Amazon rainforest, they’ll connect with community members as they build schools, participate in clean water initiatives or plant community gardens. They’ll also take part in activities like cooking classes, meeting a local shaman, visiting Quito and the Galapagos Islands where nature, wildlife and Darwin’s theories come together. Every experience will challenge the students to engage with people from different cultures, reflect on their impact and spark a flame for lasting change.

Don’t miss out on this amazing opportunity! Keep your eyes open for more information, come and ask Mr. Lawson for details, or visit https://www.eftours.ca/tour-website/2088902RY for more information.

School has only just started, but if you are already thinking about what to do next summer, perhaps visiting Montreal, Quebec City, and Ottawa with some of your friends sounds like a pretty awesome idea! If it does, then don't miss out! Students from Hillside will be travelling to central Canada to participate in historical reenactments, tour the only walled city north of Florida, visit some of Canada's premier museums, and eat poutine, maple syrup, and other gourmet delights!
If this sounds like something you would like to do, there will be a final meeting for any students interested in attending this awesome trip on Tuesday, October 17th at 7 PM in the Hillside Learning Commons. It is open to all students currently in grade 9 to 12, so come and find out more about the trip, the costs, the educational and personal benefits that travel provides, and anything else you might want to know. Space is limited and the deadline to sign up is approaching fast!
If you are already signed up to go, congrats! You are going to experience an amazing trip that you will remember for a lifetime! This meeting is also for you! We will be discussing travel documents, packing lists, and luggage restrictions. Make sure you don't miss this vital information.
See you all at 7 PM on October 17th!
